Over the years, orthodontics have progressed and newer ways of correcting crowding and bite problems have been developed. Clear aligners like Invisalign® have been trending, and recently, braces for a short-term treatment called Six Month Braces have become popular. Both have seen success in producing a straighter smile, but each treatment also has its limits. So what’s the difference between the two?
Six Month Braces
Powerprox Six Month Braces® are wired braces that are less visible than traditional ones. Treatment typically takes an average of six months, depending on the extent of the dental corrections you need to make. These braces are good for straightening out the front teeth and addressing small gaps or alignment issues. If your correction extends to your molars, Six Month Braces might not be the ideal path. This treatment is good for those who need more minor adjustments. For complex issues like wider gaps and more serious alignment issues like overbites, underbites, and crossbites, Invisalign may be the more suitable option.
Invisalign
With Invisalign, you wear smooth clear aligners that you change out for new ones every two weeks. Because you can pop them on and off at any time, you can take them off to brush your teeth or eat your meals without limits on what you can consume. This means that you’re not dealing with metal scraping against your cheeks or food stuck in between the wires. Because the aligners are clear and snapped closely to your teeth, you can barely see the trays.
Invisalign is more comfortable and discreet, but the cost is higher as well. This is partly because it corrects more complex issues and therefore requires a longer period of time for the treatment to be completed. But still, Invisalign on average is faster than traditional braces, which can often take two years or more to see results. Invisalign typically takes about 12 to 18 months.
