For great oral health, most people – including kids – should visit the dentist every six months. Regular cleanings and exams prevent issues like gum disease, cavities, and more. What should your child expect when they visit the dentist for the first time?

What Is the First Visit Like?

Kids should start seeing the dentist when their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday. During the visit, we’ll establish a baseline for your child’s oral health. We’ll examine their teeth, gums, and jaw. Depending on your child’s age, we may perform a gentle cleaning, but it’s not always necessary.

Kids may be nervous to visit the dentist for the first time, so we take special care to make them feel safe and comfortable. The first visit is also a great time for parents to ask questions about their child’s oral health or brushing/flossing routines.

What Treatments Do Kids Need?

We offer many kid-friendly treatments at our office. Cleanings and exams are regular, preventive treatments. We also do tooth-colored fillings, dental sealants, fluoride treatments, baby crowns, and baby root canals.

Why Do Kids Need Exams & Cleanings?

Your child’s baby teeth will fall out eventually, so why is it so important to go to the dentist every six months? Neglecting a child’s oral health can lead to serious issues like cavities, severe toothaches, and other complications. If their baby teeth fall out too soon or they have development issues, the health of their adult teeth is affected. Regular visits to the dentist prevent problems and keep your child’s oral health in great shape!
